Traditional braces have been around for more than 100 years. They are still hard to beat when you need to correct a number of difficult orthodontic problems with one appliance. They also happen to be especially popular these days now that everyone is wearing masks. Those metal brackets and wires are ideal for treating overcrowding, a crossbite, overbite, underbite, as well as rotated (crooked) teeth and gaps. The brackets are bonded to the teeth in order to hold the wires in place. With continuous pressure, the wires gradually move your teeth into their proper alignment. While the length of an individual’s treatment will depend on the type of correction that’s needed, most people, on average, need to wear traditional braces for 12 to 24 months.
